Fellas: Can you give me some insight?

  • I was in the car alone with a white male friend of mine on our way to have lunch. We aren't dating but do flirt pretty heavily. I saw this cute black dude walking down the street and leaned forward to take a better look. My friend was like, "you think he's cute don't you?" I said yeah. My friend seemed a little sad.

    I've told my friend that I think he's cute and that I have no problems dating outside my race or him.

    He always talks about interracial dating and I get the feeling that he likes me. He does his best to be around me, bring me things and makes me laugh constantly. He won't just come forward and ask me out which makes me believe that he doesn't like me like that.

    Trust me, I'd be down with the swirl if he said the word. I'm actually about to go for it my damn self at this point!

    But, I don't know. Am I reading too much into this?

  • Sounds like you should probably just ask him. I doubt you're reading too much into it. In fact, you're probably reading it completely accurately. He may not be entirely sure how you'd respond so he hasn't asked you out because he doesn't want it to be awkward or possibly damage your relationship.

    Either ask him out on an actual date, and let him know that's what it is and not just the two of you going out "as friends" or just sit him down and talk to him about the situation and see if he really is interested. Don't make it an interrogation, obviously, but be straight with him about it.
