Message:You Have performed an illegal action?
March 19th, 2010
I tried creating a document just now and the error message no longer appears. I have no idea what is going on, but if it happens again, I would like to know what I can do to get rid of this 'illegal" message
I am currently using Grisoft AVG antivirus
Update your virus definitions and run a scan.
Also, try the normal.dot suggestion in my previous reply.
Finally, try repairing word. You will need your original install cds. The repair option is under the Help menu.
1 . You open Word.
2. You open a document
3. Before you can do anything else, an error message appears.
4. You click the button to clear the error message.
5. The document you were opening closes (so, it did open?)
6. Another word icon appears on your task bar next to an existing Word icon.
7. All the toolbars are greyed out in Word (do you have the original blank document still open?)
is this correct?
What do you mean that you "click everything on"
you can try this:
with word closed, search for normal.dot and rename it to abnormal.dot. start word.
more info on normal.dot (http://www.theofficeexperts.com/word.htm#NormalDot)
I have tried working in the document and just moving the error message to the corner, but the toolbar buttons are all greyed or shaded. If I click on each button in the toolbar they come on, but it is of no consequence, since everything starts screwing up, for example; I tried to make space between two lines in a document and it would not allow me to.
could this be a virus?
