• The sale of Germaine DeFoe to Spurs means more transfer money coming into The Valley. Charlton lost DeFoe to West Ham through a transfer tribunal back in 1999. Charlton was rewarded £1.4m plus 15% over the initial £1.4M on a "sell-on" clause. The total fee between Spurs and West Ham has not been announced but the expect £7m price tag works out to a £840,000 share for the Addicks.

Money like that brought in Hreidersson and Holland each last season. Let's see what fiancially troubled clubs we can get some bargain players this summer.

  • This is great news.

I just wish all of this could have happened earlier -- time enough to bring in another player or two for this season.

To me, just another reason that when the transfer window is open, teams should be on a break. A winter break during the window in January would give managers time to work with their club administrators to get deals done. I can't imagine trying to coach the team through practices and matches and find time to cook up some transfer deals. Whew!

I look forward to see whom Curbs brings on board. He does have an eye for talent. He just can't buy at the top of the talent pool. What a manager!

  • The final figure has been determined. Check this out.

Quite disappointing. Seems everything is going against us now.

  • Actually, that figure could be more based upon how much Bobby Zamora was valued in the deal. It is suspected that he was valued at £1.5m so the fee could go up to £1.065m from £840,000. We'll have to see how all of this shakes out.

  • I hope that things turn out well. Charlton should have originally recieved more for Defoe, but anyhting is better than nothing.

  • What's the Reader's Digest version on how that whole thing went down? I was not a fan at the time.
